Polymer Clay Art Fun

Found another new hobby of mine - having fun with Clay. Since young, I love to play clay and I even have a set of tools to make different kinds of thing. Now, even when i saw clay selling at toys shop, I will 100.999% attracted by them, because it is so CUTE!

So, I found this clay art shop (Malaysia Clay Art) at a bazaar - selling CLAAAAYYYS. oh yeah, I told myself, I'm definitely got to buy it!

I BOUGHT IT! *excited*

Total up :

  • The Polymer Clay Set (24 x 30g)
  • Winsor & Newton Acrylic Colour Set
  • Embossing Stylus Tool Set
  • Modeling Craft Clay Tools

  • It's sealed well and packed inside. See, it has vibrant of colors, so attractive!

    The tools.
The happiest thing is that, they made free upgrade for me, from 12 colors to 18 colors. Nah, this is a good marketing strategy, free upgrade for customers and make customers happy. haha.

Alright, with all these, I made a first try on doing polymer clay, first attempt on - Molang, errrr, is does not look nice, I admit. haha. somehow, I enjoy. :D  and it is not easy on modeled it until you try yourself.

Polymer Clay is also called as Oven Bake Clay, where after you modeled an object, bake it to transform the plastic like clay to a hard and solid one. The Clay itself is so firm & soft to work with, because as a first timer on clay, I roll and shape, roll and shape don't know for how many times, but it is still in good condition. At the same time, it is durability & elastic whereby it will not crumble off easily with my repetition of squashing it.
    • It is made based on the polymer polyvinyl chloride  (PVC).
    • Can touch up finishing with oil paint/acrylic because polymer is an oil base product. You can also use chalks or pastels or mica powders to color it.
    • Tends to be more durable
    • After baked, it will not shrink
    • Can make into anything from beads, charms, keychains, figurines, sculptures, miniatures and etc

Baking time and temperature are critical, once you create the most amazing thing with polymer clay, but if it melts, burns or break because it’s undercooked or overcooked – it’s just too sad.  The clay should bake evenly throughout and become a hard plastic. Too low a temperature, it’ll crumbles; too high a temperature, and the outside fuses and burns before the inside has cooked through.

So, what Malaysia Clay Art advice is:
"Place the modelled object on aluminium foil and let it harden in the oven for a maximum of 15 minutes at a temperature of 130°C. Malaysia Polymer Clay will only be completely hardened when cooled down to room temperature."

Cool isn't? And I have made a few polymer models, it does not crack at the moment. Last step, don't forget to apply glaze to make it shinny and smooth.

    :)
